Make Turkish Coffee
at Home!!

Turkish coffee (or Greek, or Moroccan, or Arabic coffee) is made with extremely finely ground coffee, almost as fine as talcum powder.

Different areas of these countries make different flavours of this coffee as they add spices (cardamom, star-anise, caraway, cinnamon, cloves) to the coffee beans before grinding.
You can have a lot of fun experimenting with these flavours!

If you want to make a plain Turkish coffee, however, you can use your Medium Roast beans and grind them very finely.

  • Per person, put a tablespoon of powder-fine ground coffee plus a teaspoon of sugar in the ibrik ( Turkish coffee pot, small brass or steel pot with long handle).
  • Add only enough water for the number of small cups you need to make.
  • Bring the coffee mixture slowly to the boil, stirring gently.
  • Once the coffee comes to the boil, it will start to foam.
  • Immediately take it off the fire and wait until the foam has subsided.
  • If you want, you can put it back on the fire, and wait until it starts to foam again.
  • Again, take it off the fire and wait until the foam subsides.
  • You can repeat this once more.
  • Pour the coffee immediately in small cups.
  • Serve with a glass of water ( to wash the “coffee-mud” down )

Naturally this style of coffee goes extremely well with a selection of small Middle Eastern cakes and pastries... oh, temptation, temptation!!
